Character's Full Name: Deryn Argall
PB: Lauri Ylönen
Character's Starting Level: 3
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Deryn stands at a five foot six and a half inches making him a rather average sized man. He has a lithe build easily hidden more often than not by a coat or a shirt one size too big. It's rare to see him in anything form fitting without something large over it. The illusion of size, combined with his angular baby face, makes him appear youthful, like someone just in their twenties which he is, but it really shows for him.
He is paler than most humans can be. In fact he sometimes wears makeup to give himself color to blend in better. He is from a race of people who is not known for being colorful. This extends to his hair and wardrobe, black and white for nearly everything. Even if he doesn’t remember much of home something about black and white calls to him. His go to wardrobe is always black jeans with heavy boots and a leather or winter jacket. He doesn’t like to be cold at all.
The only true color to be found on him are his eyes. He was one of the few with colorful eyes, a pale shade of green. His eyes stand out more thanks to his striking black hair, even his eyelashes and facial hair grows in black. This makes his green eyes really pop.
Deryn wears his hair in a strange style. His bangs are kept as long as the rest, it frames his face completely when there is no style (which will rarely if ever be seen). He keeps it swept back and styled to look like it's spiked, held in place by girlish hair pins, clips and a lot of hair gel and glue. It almost always has black crow feathers sticking out haphazardly from the back. When he lacks the feathers he wears a beanie, but he is rarely seen without his feathers.
He has a tattoo that takes up most of his forearm that says "Dynasty". This was done before coming through the veil so he has no recollection of getting it, why he has it or what it meant at the time.
Character's Species/Race: Fetchling
Character History (Pre-Veil):
Born the middle child of a merchant family, Deryn never wanted to take up the family trade. He wanted to be an adventurer, to travel with those he knew growing up. Even when he wasn't the strongest he didn’t give up. He worked alongside those that were willing to show him how to be useful when a party decided to take him along.
He can remember bits and pieces but nothing coherent. Most of his old life is far gone. He remembers how his powers work, how to fight and how to blend in, but not how he learned these things or from who. Edit: 6/6/2017 - New Per-veil history.
Post Veil History (if applicable):
Deryn arrived in this world in a small village of Leira, the Scandinavian Mountains by a same sex couple Hilde and Sigrid who were returning from shopping a few towns over when they found the strange man wandering near their farm. At first they almost called authorities but they quickly realized he was not a normal person. Instead they took him home. Neither felt they needed to worry. They kept him with them for the next year. With the woman Deryn came to terms that his memories were gone but he had a new life.
Hilde collected birds, and Deryn would spend most of his time in the shed with the birds with Hilde feeding them and learning from her how they worked and how to tell the differences in them. It was less than a month in their care before he started collecting the black feathers and styling them in his hair, which made both of the woman tickled pink.
The woman were both very positive people, teaching him how to farm in the cold that shook the land most of the year and how to work technology. Here he learned he had an affinity to cook, being utterly taken by Sigrid's cookbooks. He was very protective of his new family, anytime they would take him with them shopping and someone would make a comment he would be quick to jump to their aid like a second nature. Whenever either of the woman told him to knock it off he would let whatever insult was thrown their way go. He knew not to fight their battles even if he hated people messing with them.
As the year past they kept noticing Deryn gone, and would seek him out worried for his wellbeing, as the three had come close enough to feel like family over the year. Each time they would find him at the waters edge staring out. They knew the time was coming when their strange friend would leave, it was like the world was calling him.
It was Hilde who had known of someone who had worked with the Knights once that bought a ticket on a steam liner to send Deryn somewhere where his restless spirit could find a purpose. Her and Sigrid wanted him to stay but they felt it was better to send him somewhere where he could be with others who could help him, the three thought the knighthood might be able to help with his forgotten memories… not really knowing much besides what she had heard from her old friend. With hugs and promises of him writing if he got accepted or returning if rejected the ladies saw him off, Hilde giving him a bag of the raven feathers, and Sigrid one of her cookbooks, then waving as the ship left. He planned to make them proud.
Personality and Psychology:Despite not remembering his life, Deryn’s personality came through just the same. The product of the place where he grew up. A dark place, the Shadow World. He at first seems quiet, standoffish and bored until he warms up to people. Then he starts to show himself. He is actually quite warm, he likes colors even if he won't wear them often. He likes to see people laugh and smile and generally be happy, but he knows a lot of humans can’t be trusted. Which is why he is quiet towards people at first, waiting to see what kind of person they are before he opens up.
He is a survivor and adapter, he will change himself and his ways to get by and to not stick out more than his looks make him stand out, he will be one of the first to step up behind whoever is in charge and agree with something even if he doesn’t actually think it is right. The point is to fit in, and not make waves. Having a place to belong is more important to him than speaking his true thoughts.
Where most fear the things that go bump in the night, Deryn is more comfortable surrounded by darkness. It makes him feel more at home, more at ease. It is bright lights that make him uneasy. He is likely the last person who would volunteer to go to Hawaii on a mission. It is not so much that light is bad for him it’s just his subconscious messing with him, telling him that the darkness is safer because he knows it. While the woman who found him when he arrived helped Deryn adjust to living in light he is still a bit weary of it. He wears the feathers in his hair as a means to remind himself of good things. The woman who found him collected birds. The feathers come from them.
They also helped him when he arrived trying to get him open up more it was just his nature to watch before opening himself to anyone. Having seen firsthand how people can be mean to others just because they don't understand something. He knows bad things happen to good people, he has seen it in how humans are cruel to one another and it bothers him to the point that sometimes he will speak out against it unless it goes against those he is closest too.
He wants to do some good in his life, which is what his driving force is. With his power and his lost memories he wants to make a new path for himself. To help someone else, and try to make sure others don’t feel as lost as he did when he first arrived. He is a sympathetic person, he feels bad for those around him when bad things happen even if they don’t happen to him. Where most might just leave it alone he would ask about whatever was wrong and offer company or a shoulder to cry on even if whatever was wrong isn’t his problem.
He gets cabin fever when he has been in one place too long without much to shake things up, this is what brought him to the knighthood, Leira was horribly small and he had to get away. He knew he had power and wanted to see the world. When Hilde metioned the knighthood it filled him with hope of travel and adventure. He loves seeing new places and trying new things.
He feels most comfortable when he can just go with the flow. He will smile, and laugh and speak his mind. When things don’t go the way he wants it shows in the way he will twist the end of his bangs or chew on them. Sometimes pulling the feathers from his hand and start fiddling with them and pacing while he plots and tries to figure out how to fix whatever is bothering him. He hates letting things linger if it gets under his skin. He is the type who will do his what he can unless it better serves survival to let it go, as survival comes first and comfort second.
Powers and Abilities:Being a Fetchling, he is granted excellent nightvision. He can see twice as far as most with Darkvision, as he has Deepsight to. In general he does best in the dark. With lightning reflexes and shadow blending it makes him a hard target to hit.
He also has a spell like ability to disguise himself once a day and completely change his looks for an hour or so. But that aside he has the gift of charm, he uses his looks and charisma to keep himself from the wrong end of a weapon. Or to distract someone long enough to to get whatever he needs done, done.
Here is a list of not only his stats but his powers as well.

[ Standing before the mirror Deryn was already in the silver and blue armor looking at his reflection as he twisted his hair behind him in the haphazard style, reaching down for the feathers laid near by he started to slip them into his hair, each held in place by not only the style but small black clips.
He wondered if Hilde and Sigrid would be alright. The idea was vanished as soon as it passed his mind, they were both strong and lived just fine before him and would do so after him to. He would have to send them a picture of how silly he looked in the armor.
He took another breath after the last feather was in place. Looking over his reflection his pale skin and almost complimented by the silver of the armor.
Even with the lights off, he could see himself just fine. Lifting a hand he ran it over the bracer of his right hand, where the ink was on his arm. Even if he didn't remember what it was or why he had it he found when he was nervous just touching it seemed to calm his nerves. Taking a breath he looked at his reflection one last time and turned to head out of the room knowing the ceremony was about to start. ]
I can do this, I can do this... [ He chanted to himself as he walked in the armor.]

Any other important information (including special inventory items in their possession): Nothing really, unless you count having a plethora raven feathers, but no raven. [ The PB for Hilde is Katherine Moennig, and Sigrid is Juliya Chernetsky ]
Why do you think this character would join/work with the Knights? It's a chance to do what he wanted to do with his new found life, and that's make a difference in this world. He figures at least with the knights even if he fails in his goal he can do some good before he dies. That in itself is enough for him.
Do you have a preference for which member of the Knights your character is squired to? Nope~!
